Helloooo!

It’s been quite an eventful few days. And by eventful, I mean eventful with voice acting. I’ve auditioned for 12 roles so far within the past week. One of them I’ve already been dismissed for, which is fine, because it was my first audition. I still have a long way to go, but I already feel myself improving. For example, I now know that my voice is a medium to high male voice, so voicing deep voiced characters is hard for me. I know that I need to improve on giving more emotion to my voice, and that I have accents I want to improve on.

Coming from the south, I already have a southern accent readily available. The problem is that it’s a mix of country and Cajun, not truly a pure southern accent. I might just put in the work to do a Texan southern accent, though I feel it’d be easy for me to master. Now, the accents I really wanna get down are a French accent and a pure Cajun accent. Ironically the hardest one for me to get down is the Cajun accent. But French? Pffft, easy. Still needs some work, but I studied French for years so the accent comes a bit more naturally to me.

I found a website where anyone can put up their project that they’re working on in order to recruit creatives. Mostly voice actors, but there’s other roles too. There’s also a corresponding Discord server. It’s been fun getting to know other voice actors and having the chance to practice with them. Like I’ve said, I’ve already learned a lot within the week I’ve been doing this. It’s super fun. I may not be a professional yet, but I’ll be damned if I don’t try to get there.

Oh, yeah. This isn’t voice acting related, however this was just such a crazy thing that happened that I can’t not mention it. Trigger warning for homophobia and violence.

Alright, so I was at work right? And there this unhoused guy that came in from time to time to charge his phone and power banks and stuff. No big deal. Well, as he was headed to the bathroom, one of my coworkers told him that he couldn’t shave in there. Last time he was here, he had shaved and made an absolute mess in the bathroom. Which we couldn’t have because it’s a public restroom, and this is a food establishment. We all knew it was him that had shaved, but he insisted, rather aggressively, that he didn’t do it. Within in a few minutes this escalated, and he started screaming at us that he was going to kill us and kept using the words “faggot” and “cocksucker.” Like, he specifically screamed he couldn’t wait to kill us.

Luckily, despite being shaken up, I had enough sense to dial 911 because what do you mean you’re going to kill us? Sir, this is a Wendy’s (not where I actually work). Anyway, yeah, I called and reported what was happening. Luckily once my call was done, my coworker had forced him out of the store and off of the property. But we sure as hell were scared for the rest of the night. In fact, I wanted to leave right then and there and not come in for my shift the following day. Of course, after all was calm, I had to call my boss to tell him what happened. I asked, and he specifically said I couldn’t miss work tomorrow despite a homophobic, deliberate, and extreme threat to my life.

Like that’s fucking bullshit. I’m not exactly subtle about being queer with my appearance, and this man was specifically using homophobic slurs towards us. This man threatened my goddamn life, and now I have to spend the next few weeks hypervigilant so that I don’t die amidst the ever growing federal threats to my life. This is stupid.

Luckily, we haven’t seen him since. And it better stay that way because we obviously don’t want him around, and I hate dealing with the police. That was my second time calling 911 on the job.

Anyway, I hope everyone is well!
